When preparing your child for a blood test, it is vital that you follow the instructions, as only then the tests will be reliable. Your child’s positive mental attitude to the test is also important. Our staff is experienced in working with children but the parental support is essential to relieve the child from anxiety.
Please note that the instructions are not for emergency situations that threaten the life or health of your child, when the tests must be done!
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
- Newborns – the test should be done before feeding (2-3 hours after the last feeding, optionally min. 1 hour after the last feeding).
- Small children – the test should be done 2-3 hours after the last meal (low-fat meal).
- Older children – the test should be done before breakfast, optionally 2-3 hours after the last meal (low-fat meal).
- Before blood test, still water should be given.
- Physical exercise before blood tests should be limited.
- The test should be done after a good night sleep.
HORMONAL TESTS
- The test should be done after a good night sleep.
- Older children – no strong stress during the last 24 hours before the blood test.
- You should not have your hormonal tests done during or right after an infection.
TESTS BEFORE THE SURGERY
- Blood test should be done before breakfast.
- Still water should be given before the blood test.
- You should not have your tests done during or right after an infection.
- On the preceding day, you should be on a low-fat and light diet.
ATTENTION
If your child fainted in the past during blood sampling, please tell our staff about it.
After blood sampling, you should continue to press the swab against the injection site ca. 5 minutes to prevent bruising.
